A note about The Cuddlywumps Chronicles

This blog is written and maintained by Miss Cuddlywumps, a fluffy-tailed calico cat who is both classically educated and familiar with mysteries. She receives creative input from the Real Cats and clerical assistance from She of Little Talent (old SoLT, a.k.a. Roby Sweet). Comments or complaints should be addressed to Miss C rather than to old SoLt (Ms. Sweet). Ms. Sweet accepts no responsibility for Miss C's opinions.

The Year in Our Rearview: 2017

Is this year almost over already? Seems like just yesterday we were making big plans for things to do in 2017, and now we’ve only got a couple of days left. (So, old SoLT, you’d better get on that treadmill and start running if you really want to exercise more this year!) Well, even though we didn’t quite get everything done, we have still accomplished quite a lot here at The Cuddlywumps Cat Chronicles:
  • We expect to end the year with over 300 posts published.
  • We updated our header to include the Real Cats.
  • We made some great new friends.
  • We reviewed 40 books.
  • We went to our first BlogPaws conference (the first of many, we hope!).
  • We created new graphics for most of our regular features.
  • We started two new features: Cat Classics on Film and Cat Travel. (Okay, technically Cat Classics on Film started in 2016, but it really got going in 2017.)
  • Real Cat Webster got really serious about his Words with Webster feature. He did 27 words this year.
  • Real Cat Paisley observed a partial solar eclipse.
  • Real Cat Webster ate some things (see collage below).
  • We did Secret Paws for the first time and had so much fun!
  • And of course, I appeared in the fifth book of the Miss Cuddlywumps Investigates series.

Do you remember these moments from the Cuddlywumps Cat Chronicles in 2017?
A few of our favorite moments in 2017.
Note how often Real Cat Webster has his mouth open!

We have had fun looking back at some of our favorite moments of 2017, but you know what happens if you spend too much time looking in your rearview mirror? You crash. So now let’s look forward to 2018 and take a look at some things we have planned!

In 2018, we want to
  • Finish making graphics for all our feature categories.
  • Start a new feature called Cat Classics in Print, where we’ll look back at some great cat books from years past.
  • Do more interviews. This is down to old SoLT finding people and cats to interview and then setting it up. It’s not hard, old SoLT!
  • Create an actual strategy for our social media. This would replace our current strategy, which is basically, “OMC, we haven’t posted anything to [insert here: Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook] this week!”
  • Grow our readership.

And speaking of readers, we’d like to thank all of you for spending parts of 2017 with us. Thank you for taking the time to read these little things we write. Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We look forward to sharing more with you in 2018!

Thanks! graphic

  1. you have done TONS to be proud of! Well done YOU!! I am in the process of doing some serious reflecting and will make some decisions by the end of January.........I may be doing the opposite........I want to return to the original reason of why I began blogging in the first place and STOP focusing on numbers, etc........and....if that isn't possible.......we just might head off into the sunset! catchatwithcarenandcody

    1. I think for a lot of us, blogging is more a labor of love than a numbers game. It's SO much work, and it doesn't exactly pay the bills. So you really have to love what you're doing to keep doing it. :)

  2. I love that you have achieved so many of your goals this year. As I have always told my students, setting specific (difficult) and measurable goals achieve more than those that set general goals. There is a positive and linear relationship between goal difficulty and performance. You have achieved much and believe me, you will achieve more!
Kudos! And thank you for sharing with us!

    1. Thanks! I have definitely learned the value of setting concrete goals rather than fuzzy ones. :)

  3. You are without a doubt one of our very favorite blogs, and you've had a pawsome year! We adore your book and movie reviews, and you always find such fun historical topics to cover. Love your plans for 2018, especially the Cat Classics in Print series. I've been thinking about going back and re-reading and reviewing some of the older cat cozies that started my collection in the first place!

    1. Wow, thanks! That means so much, coming from the person who inspired me to start blogging in the first place. :)

  4. 2017 sounds like it was very productive for you, so 2018 is bound to be great! You have some sound goals, and have reminded me that this year is winding down quite quickly, and I should do the same thing (yes, social media strategy & more - I don't have any either, unless "flying by the seat of my pants" is a strategy)! :)

    1. "Flying by the seat of your pants" is a strategy, just maybe not the most productive one! :)
