Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Plus Friendly Fill-Ins

You'll have to forgive Real Cat Webster, he hit the nip a little too hard after he found out old SoLT is one-third Irish. We don't have the heart to tell him that doesn't automatically mean he's Irish too!

Happy St. Patrick's Day from The Cuddlywumps Cat Chronicles!

Friendly Fill-Ins

And now to Friendly Fill-Ins, from 15andmeowing and McGuffy’s Reader. They are a fun way to learn a little bit about the authors of the blogs you read. The first two questions are from Ellen of 15andmeowing, and the next two are from Annie of McGuffy’s Reader. Old SoLT did all the answers this week.

1. The oldest item in my home is some Civil War–era stuff I bought a long time ago. I have a soldier’s hand-held mirror, a pair of sharpshooter’s glasses, and a soldier’s letter home.

2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is too scary to contemplate. I might be growing a new antibiotic in there!

3. My family heritage is really interesting to me right now because I just got the results of my Ancestry DNA test. According to this test, I am about 34% Irish, 33% Scandinavian (?), 10% West European, 10% Great Britain, and some little bits of other things. Now I just want to find out more!

4. My favourite family tradition is …This one is tough because we never had many family traditions. Maybe our tradition is not having traditions.

  1. Happy St. Patrick's Day!!! Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I think that is so cool you got to do the ancestry test, I want to do that one of these days too. That is wonderful that you collect civil war memorabilia, those sound like nice items. Have a nice weekend! PS: Webster, everyone is Irish on St. Patty's Day.XO

  3. We only had one tradition in my family ... Christmas ... everything changed from year to year for other holidays and days of note. Bear's glad he doesn't have to dodge Webster kisses ... the ones from Momma are more than enough! I'm fascinated by the Civil War. Right now I'm reading Fates and Traitors: A Novel of John Wilkes Booth by Jennifer Chiaverini. I have to admit it's a little slow to get moving ... so far all I've read is about his family life.

  4. Cool War of Northern Aggression stuff. It is always interesting to see things from the War Between the States. Have a great weekend.

  5. Happy St. Patrick's Day, cuties! You cracked me up on #2...who's the guinea pig who gets to try out this new antibiotic first?

  6. Happy Patrick’s Day!! mom just got her DNA back, too! She is a third Irish, a third British, some Scandinavian, and traces of Western Europe , Iberian peninsula, Finland and North western Russia! She had been told there was Native American in her line, but there is no trace of it!

  7. How cool! We got the Ancestry DNA test awhile back and it was exciting to finally have some answers for various questions that we've had for years. The main question being whether David and I are genetically linked. At least for the time frame that the Ancestry DNA test covers, which I think is 10 generations (but I'm not sure), we are not. One of the surprises for me was finding out that I also have Middle Eastern heritage. That was interesting indeed! Isn't Ancestry a ton of fun? I love it!

Have you also signed up with GEDMatch? It is a free site, at least the parts that I've used. If you sign up with them, they give you a kit number which can then be used to compare yourself with other kits. Maybe we could compare kits to see if we have a connection. :)

I think it is great that you have items from the War Between the States. One of my 2nd great-grandfather's was a sharpshooter. He was aged 16 when he entered service for our country. Now, our youngest son, a Marine, is an expert rifleman, which goes a step higher in the rankings than sharpshooter, as I understand it.

I enjoyed your post. Have a blessed weekend!

  8. Very cool you have Civil War era stuff! You cracked me up on the 'growing antibiotic' in your fridge...heh!! One of these days I'd love to do an Ancestry DNA test - there's such a mix of interesting people in our ancestry, I'd love to pinpoint some! ;)
