Cat of the Week: Cuma in Westhampton

June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month. At this time of year, “kitten season,” the young kittens get a lot of attention. But there are lots of older cats in shelters just waiting to be welcomed into a loving forever home. That’s why each week in this space, we feature a senior cat (7 years +) in need of adoption or sponsorship. Mature cats make great companions, and unlike kittens, they (probably) won’t climb the curtains! Adopt a senior cat, and help him or her enjoy the best years of their life!

On this last Tuesday of the month, we are reintroducing Cuma, a lovely 11-year-old tabby who is currently at Bideawee’s Westhampton, New York, location. We featured her once before, but she is still waiting for a forever home. Cuma is very sweet but sometimes gets too excited. She needs someone who will be patient and help her chill out in her new home, where it might take some time for her to bond with a new person. Cuma came to the shelter because the other kitties in her former home were sometimes mean to her, and her person wanted her to be safe. Because she can become overexcited, she would do best in a home with no children.

Cat of the Week: Ryan in Baltimore

Today we’re introducing Ryan. He is a big, quiet guy who is 11 years old. Ryan was a lap cat in his previous home. He can be a little shy with new people, but once he gets to know you a little bit, he loves head rubs and chin rubs. What a great friend he would make for someone!

Cat of the Week: Sizzle in Washington, DC

Our Cat of the Week is Sizzle, a 10-year-old female who loves, loves, loves to cuddle. Sizzle is very affectionate, and she comes from a loving home, so she’s eager to get back into an environment where she’ll be treasured forever. She is a little on the large side (20 pounds!), and she’s trying to lose weight. If you’ve ever been on a diet, you’ll understand how she feels. In her spare time, she enjoys patrolling the bathtub and chasing string. Sizzle does not have experience living with other cats, so she would prefer to be an only cat.

Cat of the Week: Panda in Baltimore

Today we’re introducing Panda, a handsome black-and-white male who is 7 and a half years old and is front declawed. Panda is a little shy at first and isn’t a fan of new things, but once he gets comfortable with someone, he will soak up the love and affection. He enjoys getting a lot of attention! He’s also a fan of toys, especially the little red dot, catnip mice, and balls with bells inside. In quieter moments, Panda enjoys sitting in windows to get some sunshine. If you could provide a nice, soft blankie, he would much appreciate it.

Cat of the Week: Midnight in Washington, DC

Anyone looking for a friendly little house panther? Midnight could just be your guy. He is 8 years old and very social, plus he’s got that great black coat. Midnight will greet you at the door when you come home, and he’ll meow back to you when you call him. Fun! He also enjoys playing with toys, and he gets along with other cats. Sometimes petting makes him a little nervous, so you do have to pay attention to his signals. For this reason, he might do better in a home with adults or older children who won’t force their attention on him. Midnight has to eat special food because of an allergy, but the food is available in most pet stores and online. He is also a “hidden gem,” which means his adoption fee is waived!

Cat of the Week: Tiger in Baltimore

Today we have Tiger, a big, handsome boy whose name says it all. Just look at those perfect tiger stripes! Tiger is 7 years old and is FIV positive. Don’t let his diagnosis scare you off—with good care and appropriate health monitoring, FIV-positive cats can live long, healthy lives, and FIV does not pose a health risk to humans. Tiger enjoys many of the finer things of life: chin rubs and other nice attention (and he’s not shy about asking for it if you’re not giving enough!) and relaxing in a window to watch the birds outside.

We love a handsome tabby cat, and we just know that Tiger will make a perfect companion for someone out there. Learn more about him here.

This week, we’d like to reintroduce a sweet, handsome boy we’ve featured before: Randy in Westhampton, New York. Randy is a 16-year-old male who has handsome black-and-white coloring. He’s a big boy, and we’re told that he is quite chatty. In fact, he’s basically a big ham who can charm his way into anyone’s heart. He also likes to just snuggle quietly with someone.

Today, please meet Sheridan, an older gentleman who is really laid back and sweet. He likes being near someone, and he soaks up loving attention. His other main interest is food. Sheridan is 15 years old, and unfortunately he has had to have all of his teeth removed. This means he can eat only wet food, but don’t think that a lack of teeth stops him! Today we’re pleased to introduce Stevie. As you can see, Stevie is a handsome black cat. That means he’ll always match your outfit. Stevie is about 10 and a half years old. He’s an easy-going senior who still gets playful whenever there’s a wand toy around. He also likes to indulge in a little catnip now and again. Stevie enjoys sitting on someone’s lap or just resting in a comfy bed. He has lived with cats and young children before.

Today, please meet this handsome tabby named Buttons. Buttons is a 7-year-old male, and we are told he is very social and likes to have a  good time. He likes to play, but he’s also easy-going and enjoys just napping in a sun puddle. Buttons gets along with other cats and could be a good companion for another cat.

This week we’re pleased to introduce Carmella, a really sweet, laid-back girl with lovely long fur. Carmella is 8 years old and is medium-sized. She loves to have her beautiful fur brushed every day. She also enjoys being held and just spending quiet time with her special person. Carmella has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. She is getting insulin shots and has special food to eat. She needs to find a new person who will be diligent about continuing her care so she stays healthy and happy.

Today we’re introducing Ginger, a 14-year-old declawed lady who is just beautiful.  Look at the coloring on her back! Ginger is described as being very mellow. She enjoys lounging in bed for much of the day, as any self-respecting senior cat does. Ginger’s family moved and could not take her with them, so she had to go to the shelter. She enjoys being petted, and she loves having a person to sleep next to at night.

Today we’re introducing an exceptionally handsome gentleman named Hector. Hector is 13 years old, and we understand he is an excellent lap cat. He is a pretty laid-back guy who warms up to new people easily. He can also be quite chatty, so be prepared to have conversations about each day’s events. Hector is no spring kitten, and he does have a few medical issues, but these are being managed easily. Plus, he has a great classical name, and it's not every day you come across a cat like that.

This handsome gentleman is Adeley. He is 14 years old and very friendly. Those who know him use words like “spirited” and “pizazz” to describe him. Adeley does enjoy long naps in sun puddles, so the lucky person who adopts him will want to ensure he has access to at least one good napping spot. He has been at Bideawee for YEARS, and while it's great that they've taken care of him all this time, wouldn't it be even greater if Adeley found that one special person or family who would give him a home of his very own? She is a young senior who has a lot of years to live and a lot of love to give. She is very affectionate, greeting people at the door and sitting near you while you work or watch television. She also enjoys head scritches. Lyla can also look after herself while you’re at work, so no worries about that!

Cats of the Week: Sadie and Sarah in Baltimore

This week we bring you a bonded pair of cats looking for a new home near Baltimore. Sadie is 11 years old, female, and laid back. She is on hyperthyroid medication. Sarah is 9 years old, female, and has such beautiful calico coloring! These kitties are both friendly and affectionate. They had to come to the shelter because of their person’s health. They’ve lived together for their whole lives, so they must be adopted together. We just know there is some terrific person in the Baltimore area who is looking to add some beauty, affection, and meows to their home.

Cat of the Week: Meatloaf in Westhampton (NY)

Each week in this space, we feature a senior cat in need of adoption or sponsorship. Please remember all the great older cats in shelters. They make great companions, and they (probably) won’t climb the curtains! Adopt a senior cat, and give him or her the best years of their lives.

This week we’re introducing Meatloaf. This handsome guy has been through some terrible times. He lived with a person who overfed him, causing him to become so morbidly obese he could not walk on his paws. Then his person had to go into a nursing home, and the family did not take care of him. Some real estate agents found him in the home and threw him outside. (Hiss!) He wound up in a shelter, but it wasn’t until the kind folks at Bideawee came into the picture that Meatloaf was really safe. (Yay!) They took him in and put him on a special diet, and he has lost two pounds already.

Meatloaf is 8 years old. His size is listed as “XL,” and the lucky family who adopts him will have to continue his special diet so he can trim down further. Despite how some people have treated him, Meatloaf is still a very gentle guy and is very affectionate. He just needs someone to love who will love him back. Maybe you?
