A note about The Cuddlywumps Chronicles

This blog is written and maintained by Miss Cuddlywumps, a fluffy-tailed calico cat who is both classically educated and familiar with mysteries. She receives creative input from the Real Cats and clerical assistance from She of Little Talent (old SoLT, a.k.a. Roby Sweet). Comments or complaints should be addressed to Miss C rather than to old SoLt (Ms. Sweet). Ms. Sweet accepts no responsibility for Miss C's opinions.

Puss in Boots—and in Ads

Wordless Wednesday

Why do some humans like to use pictures of kittens in boots to try to convince other humans to buy things? The kittens may never know, but please enjoy this "Puss in Boots" edition of (almost) Wordless Wednesday.

This trade card from about 1900 illustrates how black tips
from the A.S.T. Company will improve your life:
With tips, your kitten sleeps soundly.
Without tips, her tail pokes out the toe so the dog can pull on it.

Here we have another “kitten in boot” trade card
from about 1900, but this one is not advertising
anything to do with boots or shoes.
It’s from the Woolson Spice Company.
So if you want spicy kittens in your boots…

And finally, from the 1930s we have
this advertisement for Cherry Blossom Boot Polish.
Makes your boots as comfy as kittens!
